Senator John H. Adler

State Senator John H. Adler, now in his fifth term, is Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He is also a member of the Senate Environment Committee and the Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards.
John Adler is leading the fight for a state constitutional convention to reform New Jersey's tax system to move away from the over-reliance on property taxes in the funding of the State's public schools. This issue is currently at the forefront of the State's public policy agenda. Senator Adler's effort has gained widespread bipartisan public support among residents, local governments and other public bodies.
He also sponsored legislation to reduce the corporate tax on small business; to strengthen penalties for tobacco sales to minors; to reduce auto insurance rates; and to amend the State Constitution to permanently dedicate funding for hazardous waste cleanup.
Senator Adler has been named as one of the State's ten best legislators by New Jersey Magazine, which called him "hardworking, incisive and respected by both parties." PoliticsNJ.com lists the Senator among NJ's Smartest State Legislators, and calls him "persuasive and respected." Senator Adler received the most votes for a Democratic Legislature candidate in the history of New Jersey.
Senator Adler holds degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He resides in Cherry Hill with his wife Shelley and their four sons: Jeffrey, Alexander, Andrew and Oliver. He practices law in Westmont, New Jersey, specializing in securities arbitration.
